My Copilot Is A Troll

Throughout Odense there are statues depicting different fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen. Sometimes the plaques had an English caption, but many were in Danish, so I don't know what all of them are. There is a map you can download to find them all. One afternoon, when I was in desperate need of a nap, Janis went out and found them all, except one! Hats off to Janis!! Some are quite literal and obvious, like the Woman and the Eggs, the Swans and the Little Mermaid. Others, like the one above, more abstract. I think she is my favorite. I like how she's displayed on one of the pedestrian only streets, like she's just going about her day along with the rest of us.

  The park around the boat launch On day two, we decided to take the Odense Aafart River Cruise. It was a pleasant walk from the hotel (easy to find with well marked streets!) The boat launch is on the edge of a magnificent park. Odense seems to have an extensive trail system. With our tickets, we could on and hop of all day long. Under the advice of our lovely hotel clerk, we rode it right to the end, then walked half and hour to the Funen Village.  Our Riverboat The boat took us on a nice lazy ride for about half an hour. We could have disembarked at the Odense Zoo. We could actually see quite a bit of the zoo from the water. It appears to be lovely, winding along the river, with very natural habitats tucked into the trees. No concrete anywhere. Funen Village - Den Fynske Landsby Funen is a historical village that showcases farming life in Demark in the 19th century. Odense, Denmark is most known for being the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. It is also the hometown of  Janis' grandparents, which is the reason we picked it as a destination. Our hotel is right in the core of the historic area. Such a delightful cafe There are sculpture everywhere and it seems like every other block has a street that is just for pedestrian traffic, full of shops and sidewalk cafes. Since we arrived a couple of hours before check in, we dropped our suitcases off in the luggage room and struck out.  We found the most delightful café for lunch. I ordered a salad, because the menu was all in Danish and that was the only word I could understand (Salat) and they brought out the most beautiful salad I have ever seen! I may not be able to pronounce them (without sounding like a Muppet) but I can match them up with the map!...
