Fairy Tale Treasure Hunt

Throughout Odense there are statues depicting different fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen. Sometimes the plaques had an English caption, but many were in Danish, so I don't know what all of them are. There is a map you can download to find them all. One afternoon, when I was in desperate need of a nap, Janis went out and found them all, except one! Hats off to Janis!!















Some are quite literal and obvious, like the Woman and the Eggs, the Swans and the Little Mermaid. Others, like the one above, more abstract.






I think she is my favorite. I like how she's displayed on one of the pedestrian only streets, like she's just going about her day along with the rest of us.

Leif, Saga and I are off on another grand adventure. This time our non-troll travel companion is my Mom! This trip has been on our mind for years and in planning for months. What Do You Mean, It's not Named After Me?

Dur means hill, ham means island, so Durham is a hill on an island. This was our first stop after leaving Leeds.  I could have spent days here.  The market square had some lovely volunteers to help direct tourists. They showed us where to find a free public bathroom- very good information indeed!

Traveling Through Time and Space

Our first full day in London, which we were on our own for, was spent at the British Museum. But first we had to learn some things. Museums are free here, as culture and heritage are available to everyone. What we didn't know - you have to prebook your start time. Fortunately, we stopped to talk to the hotel concierge first.  That done, we then had to figure out how to get there, on the London Underground.  This turned  out to be actually quite straightforward - once we got to the right train station. The overground and underground are just across the street from eachother. It was Mom's first time on a subway- a new experience that she can check off her list! We gave ourselves plenty of time, and took the opportunity to walk around a bit. We have been impressed by how green London is. There is a beautiful park every few blocks. And one had a coffee shop. We could learn a thing or two about that!
