Stonehenge

We've done Victorian, Georgian, Jacobean, Tudor, Norman, Medieval...now we're going Neolithic!

Visiting Stonehenge has been another lifelong dream. I've lost count of how many documentaries I have seen about these amazing structures over the years. It's another Unesco World Heritage Site.

I was delighted to discover the walking path encircled the entire monument. It really is different from every angle. The monument stands at the top of the Salisbury Plains, and surprisingly the highway goes right by.

This brass arrow shows the direction of the midwinter sunset. There is an audio guide app you can download and listen to as you walk around the site.

The site was built over more than 2000 years. The first burial mounds were dated as 5000 years old. One of the most studied archeological sites in the world,  they are still discovering new things about it.

The interpretive center has some recreated houses from the area. The Neolithic huts are made from hazelwood sticks woven around upright posts, much like weaving a basket.

Stonehenge was an incredible experience, that left me speechless. And that takes some doing!! I truly can't find the words to describe experiencing such and ancient site. If you ever have the chance, it's a must see!
