Books and Badlands

Spring and summer have been a whirlwind. There have been adventures, but not much time to write about them. As the trolls and I pack up for our next big voyage, we are making friends with our new tablet. So, to catch up a little, I will take you back in time to February!

Family Day weekend continued with an impromptu road trip to Three Hills. I  have often stopped at the gas station/fast food on the highway at Three Hills, but have never actually gone into the town to explore. We had done a quick search of things to do online, which told us the museum was closed that day. As we drove by, I saw a car parked in front, so we decided to investigate. It turned out to be open and we got a private tour by a delightful volunteer and an enthusiastic shi tzu.

We heard that there was a good book store in Three Hills. It was so  much more. The main floor was a book store, gift shop, toy and game store. The lower level was a beautiful second hand bookstore, complete with reading chairs. After a delightful hour, and a stack of purchases later, we asked for a restaurant recommendation.

Bell 720 was not something we expected to find in a small prairie town. The architecture has a southwest mission feel to it, complete with a bell tower. The menu was varied, the prices reasonable and the food delicious.

Thus fortified, we ventured on to our last location for the day, Dry Island Provincial Park. It's a buffalo jump, just North of Trochu. I was told about it years ago by a friend, but had never been. We arrived just before sunset and were rewarded with some spectacular views of the Red Deer River valley at dusk. I hope some day my photography skills will be able to do justice to such beauty.
