Adventures Can Be Short & Sweet

I have a friend who likes to make sure I get out of the house. Once a month we try to do something together. In the winter, it's usually dinner at the local pub, Cedar's. In the summer, however, she makes me be a little more adventurous. This summer, it involved rodeos, music and beer.

Sundre is fortunate to host the Sundre Pro Rodeo. The Saturday night music featured Drew Gregory, a very talented Albertan country singer. When we found out he was playing again in Strathmore on the August long weekend, she couldn't book our room fast enough! It also happened to be the Strathmore Rodeo that weekend, which we took in during the afternoon.

The event was the annual birthday party of Origin Taproom. I was expecting a cozy, pub-like event. Chatting at a table, Drew Gregory and his guitar. I was very wrong. It was full-on party, with a huge tent, food trucks and bands playing non-stop from 2pm-2am. The food was amazing. The music was amazing. The company was amazing.

I don't drink beer, but was
assured that it was great!

The next day we weren't in a hurry to get home. So we found a place to park downtown and explored Strathmore. I have never been in Strathmore before, just driven through. We found a fabulous antique store, Strathmore Pawn Collectables Ltd., which had a little something for everyone. The Vault Cultural Collective is part museum, part art gallery and part gift shop. HOB's Hobbies would have been a hit with the rest of my family, a game store for board games and table top roll playing, like Dungeons & Dragons. We also saw an adorable bakery, whose windows had so many teddy bears, we were prompted to ask if they host Teddy Bear Picnics!

It wouldn't be a trip to Strathmore without lunch at the Station Restaurant & Pub. It's the one place I have visited before. The food is so good that I have planned road trips to be going through Strathmore at meal time. During shut downs we would order from Airdrie and our food would be ready when we got there. It was genius.
