Celebrate Good Times!

Four years ago (yesterday), I started writing a blog. My first blog was a reaction to having to stay home. I only lasted about a week at home, not working, before I was going stir crazy.

I had thought, after 12 years, that I didn't really need to use my brain too much at work. I just knew what I was doing, and did it. I realized how much time I spent teaching my clients, problem solving their injuries, devising treatment plans and counselling.

My Chinook Massage Therapy blog was a tool for me to help my clients help themselves. They weren't allowed to go for massages, but they were still in pain. I found a great deal of professional satisfaction in that.

Unexpectedly, I also discovered that I love to write. I am a natural storyteller and this was a vehicle for my stories. The problem was, once that stay at home order lifted, and I was back at work, everything changed. I didn't want to massage all day, then come home and write about massage.

And so, "My Co-pilot Is A Troll" was born, and you all get to come along on the adventures of Leif and Saga. Happy Blogiversary!

Every Family Day weekend, the Sundre & District Museum hosts Winterfest. This year had particularly spectacular weather for it. Sunny, blue skies and warm temperatures made it a delightful afternoon to wander between three locations.

The museum had a vendors market, a forestry display and a woodcarver. The Grade 8 Gulf Islands Sailing Trip had a fundraising lunch in the Elks Hall. There was also some indoor entertainment at the hall in case people needed to warm up.

The highlight for me was the horse drawn hay rides from the museum down to the campground. Live music played throughout the afternoon in the gazebo with a cozy bonfire. Scattered throughout the campground were ice sculptures, which were quite incredible. I really liked that they were tucked into the campsites, so you had to walk around to look at them all.

For the more adventurous there was a Mountain Survivalist competition, archery lessons, cross-country ski lessons for kids and an Indigenous medicine walk. Some events did require pre-registration. It really is an incredible event to bring the community together in the midst of a long winter. The perfect way to celebrate Family Day.

As you can see in the pictures, there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The day was so nice, I only needed to wear a sweater (that sure didn't last in the weeks to come!) The weather was so nice, it made us antsy. The last thing we wanted to do was sit around inside. After Winterfest, we drove out to Burntstick Lake, just to go for a drive and see what it was like in the winter. The next day would lead to more adventures - stay tuned!
