2022 Goes Out With a Bang!

December has been a busy month for Saga and Leif. They got to attend their first live theatre production. My nephew's Drama department performed Aladdin Jr., an adaptation of of the the Disney movie. They did a fantastic job and the songs were stuck in our heads for weeks. Our attendance was supposed to be a surprise for Oscar, but Donovan and Gavin are so tall, he saw us through the crowd in the atrium before the show!

Leif & Saga made new friends at Grandma's

 Upon our return home, we welcomed some new family members. Duchess and Sabre have settled right in, much to Rodeo's delight. She loves cats, perhaps a little too enthusiastically at times!


Although we did all our Christmas shopping in the fall on our big road trip, there were still homemade presents to make (the year of the Nordic Slipper!) and baking to do. Mom's cat, Kibbles did run off with a slipper at one point, Trolls aren't very good guards!


 We might not have needed to shop for Christmas presents, but Black Friday shopping was very busy for a different reason. The Trolls needed new luggage, power adapters, sleep masks and earplugs for a brand new adventure. In the spring, we are heading to Europe, Scandinavia, and the UK!!! 


My friend won flights for two from Westjet and I am very blessed to be the person she invited to go along. Scotland was the top of the list of places we wanted to go. After a very short discussion, we agreed the other "must see" places are Italy, Denmark and Norway. An odd list, to be sure, but we are kinda odd people!

Gondolas, trains, ancient ruins, wine, mermaids, Viking ships, cheese, pastries, pubs and castles! It is such a dream come true that it doesn't quite feel real yet!

Leif, Saga and I are off on another grand adventure. This time our non-troll travel companion is my Mom! This trip has been on our mind for years and in planning for months. What Do You Mean, It's not Named After Me?

Dur means hill, ham means island, so Durham is a hill on an island. This was our first stop after leaving Leeds.  I could have spent days here.  The market square had some lovely volunteers to help direct tourists. They showed us where to find a free public bathroom- very good information indeed!

Traveling Through Time and Space

Our first full day in London, which we were on our own for, was spent at the British Museum. But first we had to learn some things. Museums are free here, as culture and heritage are available to everyone. What we didn't know - you have to prebook your start time. Fortunately, we stopped to talk to the hotel concierge first.  That done, we then had to figure out how to get there, on the London Underground.  This turned  out to be actually quite straightforward - once we got to the right train station. The overground and underground are just across the street from eachother. It was Mom's first time on a subway- a new experience that she can check off her list! We gave ourselves plenty of time, and took the opportunity to walk around a bit. We have been impressed by how green London is. There is a beautiful park every few blocks. And one had a coffee shop. We could learn a thing or two about that!
